10. The Grisha Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo
This series is seriously addictive. Set in the far east, The Grisha Trilogy is high fantasy at its best. A tiered system of people with special abilities, a country at war, a mysterious leader and a girl who has no idea just how powerful she is.
9. Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor
This series is beautifully written, wildly imaginative and features one of the best YA heroines of all time: Karou, who is as beautiful and vulnerable as she is smart and tough.
9. Legend by Marie Lu
This dystopian trilogy is set in a fractured United States where plague is rampant and so are secrets and lies. The story follows Day – a teenage vigilante of sorts, wanted by the Republic and June, the Republics number one prodigy. Told from dual perspectives, the first story is a great game of cat and mouse, but it’s how it progresses that will keep you wanting more.
8. The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare
Why not The Mortal Instruments? Two words: Steam. Punk. Plus the whole throw back to the Victorian era was a brilliant move by Cassandra Clare, it lets her create an entirely new world, within a world. So meta.
7. Leviathan Series by Scott Westerfeld
Again Steampunk but this time entwined with Biopunk, meets World War I in a new history that involves genetically fabricated creatures and mechanized war machines. Sound intense? It is.
6. His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman
It’s a classic. All three books (Northern Lights, The Subtle Knife & The Amber Spyglass) are rife with intrigue, suspense and adventure. It’s also incredibly controversial. The best thing though? It doesn’t matter if you read these books when your 12 or 30, they’re still amazing.

Ok, so this series is only two books in, but, have you read them? They’re phenomenal!
4. The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken
Ruby is a survivor. Ruby is special. Ruby is on the run. There’s a lot of mystery in this series about kids with special abilities and a mysterious leader. I can’t really say anymore.
3. The Hollow Series by Jessica Verday
The supernatural abounds in this dark, moody series about a small town girl who loses her best friend but quickly learns not everything is quite how it seems. (Vague I know, but you don’t want me to give it all away do you?!)
2. Looking Glass Wars by Frank Beddor
Inspired by Lewis Carol’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass, Frank Beddor’s trilogy offers the truth of “Alyss’s” story. It’s clever and riveting.
1. Graceling Realm by Kristin Cashore
The brilliance of this series is that each book works as a standalone or part of a series. Kristin Cashore also does something unusual, the second story in the series? Features none of the main characters from the first book. But trust me when I say, it totally works.
